fantastic work. that skimmer looks like it works better than mine and your skimate is really good! Ill take a leaf out of your book and a home made skimmer is next for me!

Thanks Soda just let me know if I can help...If you need more chaeto I got some from DocH again from our last meeting...

Thanks for the offer. I'm working on reducing my phosphates as am up around 1.0-1.5 I think that's the correct reading. Not good whatever the reading. Not sure if my sump is going through a mini cycle but my nitrates and ammonia are 0 or near enough.

That's why I'm trying to get my skimmer to work properly but my Ehiem 1103 has a cracks impellor and I am using the Red Sea original pump which does not work. I'm still looking where I can get a replacement part for the 1103. I see you have a 1103, my favorite skimmer pump. Any ideas where to get spare parts from?

Thanks Aqua those zoas pop up with colors just as the PR-25 was lit...they were close before I install the light. I have reduced my timer for 2 hours and will keep the 25% settin for one week then increase by 50% the next week and so on to prevent light shock...

hey azerione, just a word of caution, please check if the orpheks are compatible with dimmer?????
as all the leds require constant current dirvers and not all drivers support dimming function. if the leds do not get enough current they will blow. Check with orphek or in the manual you might have got with the bulb.

also i think you are using a dimmer which is used for dimming normal light and fan this dimmer is used in high current circuits. LED's i suppose require 100k Potentiometer. So if orpheks support dimming then you might have to in - operate 100K pot in the circuit.

wow looking great. Never knew you could dim a Par 38, so as above hope those are indeed dimmable.
How how do you have the bulb from water level. Do you have any idea about the PAR levels you had with your previous lighting? maybe raise the bulb to get similar levels and then increase your light on time and increase bulb distance gradually...

Here's the answer to the dimming question...
Quick Overview
The PR-25 is a PAR38 formfactor bulb (screws into a normal light socket) and is a 70-150w halide pendant replacement. The PR-25 LED pendant produces a similar amount of PUR (photosynthetically useable radiation) as does a 150w metal halide bulb, with excellent spread from 60 degree honeycomb optics. Containing 12 diodes running at 2 watts each and available in various color combinations, the PR-25 is an excellent, cost effective and efficient choice for nano and mid-sized aquariums. The PUR ratio is so high than ~50-60 PAR under the PR-25 is equal to ~150 PAR under a 14k halide bulb. Even better, the PR-25 is dimmable with a common household dimmer! This is truly a 150w halide pendant replacement for less initial and operating costs - not a spotlight! Each light has approximately the same coverage as a 150w halide pendant, as well.

Actually I have never tested my PAR rating on the old HQI but as the instruction said I installed it as high as it could be then will gradually increase the intensity and timings...

good to hear those are dimmable. Should make it much easier to light acclimate then.

I checked with Tetra, replacement parts order will take 2-3 months. I tried this before for other products and got to the end of the waiting period and still nothing. Ill have to look at alternaives!

My web search is very slow and have not found the part. I hopeyou dont have the same problem with your 1103.

Good Luck

Wow 2nd half of 2010 has had so many updates we should have a thread with a sumary of each upgrade that took place with pre and post pics...
Anyone got some free time???
Or I could just create a thread where each "upgrader" could post a small summary with some pics...
